Orange Line
is an automated transit line in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. It is notable here
that this is first of its kind systems in Pakistan and came into being for the
welfare of the people so they can move easily. Purpose of this train is to
provide a better yet cost effective transit solution to the people of Lahore.
Orange train spans 27.1km with 25.4km elevated and 1.7km underground. It is
having 26 stations and as per an estimate of Govt of Punjab, it is serving
250,000 people every day. It has connected many housing societies with the main
city.
Recently
with the rising inflation, on the special directives of CM Punjab, Mr. Chaudhry
Pervez Elahi, Orange Train has announced distance-based fares. This was the
need of an hour, since people are getting benefited of it on daily basis hence,
they will pay now only for the distance they travel. Now, the ticket price
stands at starting from Rs 20/- and people have to pay additional cost of Rs 5/-
over for every 4kms.
In the
current scheme of things with rising costs, it is a very good initiative by the
Govt of Punjab and we are hoping for more such measures by the Govt.
